Freediving is ... breath hold diving, descending into ocean, lake or pool, no tank, just you, a single full breath, with just fins to get you there.
Freediving is ... for anyone, you don't need to be superfit or superbendy to enjoy it, you just need to be in reasonably good shape and health.
Freediving is ... a fabulous way to experience the crackle of the reef, the silence of the underwater realm without any noise, bubbles or crowds.
Freediving is ... a peaceful, exhilerating and fascinating activity, bringing you closer to nature than ever before.
Breath-holding is ... the very foundation of freediving, it's the gas in our tank, but it's not just a case of 'breath in and go'.
Breath-holding is ... not just learning to hold the breath, but first how to take a breath, to learn to breath fully and deeply.
Breath-holding is ... to learn how to breath into all the lobes of the lungs; to breath using the full range of respiratory muscles, even the ones you never knew you had.
Breath-holding is ... learned either through the workshop or within any of the entry level courses offered through Freedive Provo.
Taking a Freedive course ... is great fun and an incredible experience for friends, families or just any reasonably fit and healthy ocean lover.
Taking a Freedive course ... involves pool or shallow water work to build technique and practice the skills that you'll be developing further when you head out into the open ocean.
Taking a Freedive course ... involves some classroom time for the theory work that supports the wet stuff. It's this theory that develops your freediving knowledge and ensures you leave your course a safe, educated and proficient freediver.
Taking a Freedive course ... can have you diving deeper, the full entry level course gives students the skills to dive in the 33-66ft (10-20m) range, as well as developing a really cool finning technique.
Taking a Freedive course ... gives opportunity to dive with the sealife in a whole new way, without the noise and bubbles of scuba you can expect potential for closer encounters of the aquatic kind!
Taking a Freedive course ... means you learn to do something you never knew you could, you learn to do it smoothly and in a relaxed manner, to trust yourself, to realise potential and to reconsider boundaries.
Your Instructor is ... Josie, British, a bit eccentric, married, 3 dogs and an odd sense of humour. I came here in '06 originally to teach Scuba, which I still do sometimes. I'm sincere, thorough and honest. I put a lot of energy into my teaching and treat everyone as an individual.
I've heard rumour that Freediving is seen as some 'Zen' activity only the tripped out yogified do. Simply not true, I've taught Chefs, Journalists, Psychologists, Students, Opticians, CEO's, Artists and Retirees. None of whom could do 'Crab Pose', none of whom where triathletes and none of whom 'ommmmed' their way through the class whilst tapping on a small gong. The word 'namaste' simply does not get uttered. Tofu does not get eaten. Subject closed.
See you in class :)
